How We Raise Our Beef?

Our cattle roam through woods and pastured fields. Their diet is mostly pasture, grass silage and hay. We supplement with minerals, our own produce & local grains. Grass in the form of hay, silage & pasture is available to them at all times from calf until their final day on our farm. Cows have tough four chamber stomachs which enable them to digest grasses, however they also have a well developed sense of taste. We supplement with grains when pasture & hay growing conditions are not perfect due to our unpredictable New England weather. This provides our animals with a balanced diet even if optimal growing conditions are not on our side from one year to the next. Our objective is to have healthy animals who are sustained with locally produced food.
All their hay and silage is produced by our farm from our own fields and their grains comes from a local producer. We never buy in hay from other regions it is all local. Our fields & pastures are herbicide, fungicide and pesticide free. The hay fields are fertilized with compost we make from all our own animals on the farm. Cattle are rotated through different areas which prevents build-up of bacteria & diseases. This allows us to use no antibiotics or hormones ever.

Why buy our Beef?

Our beef cattle are raised in a natural environment where they have access to fresh air, grass & woods. Cattle on our farm is raised humanely and are not just another number. We raise them in small numbers sometimes only having as little as 5-8 cattle at a time. They are handled daily to ensure there is no stress on them during their lives. When they are young they run around and play with our goats and when we have time we play along with them all.

Where do your cattle come from?

We slowly but surely building our herd of beef cows. There are a total of 7 heifers on the farm. 5 of them are beef breeds and the other 2 are dairy breeds that will serve as nurse cows. Charlie our resident Bull has been on the farm since he was 2 weeks old. We also source calves from local dairies and hand raise them.

Beef Share – 2019

Our Beef shares will run for 3-month intervals and are picked up once a month at the farm stand. All beef comes frozen from the processor to ensure freshness.

Beef Share Details

There will be 2 different seasons for beef shares: Summer & Fall

The Summer Share will have pick-ups in June, July & August

The Fall Share will have pick-ups in September, October & November

Pick-up is during normal stand hours (8am-7pm or dark whichever is latest) Tuesday to Saturday. I always try to be available for pick-up weeks but I also have animals to tend to, vegetables to pick & farmers markets that I attend so pick-up will generally be self serve. Your share will be bagged and placed in the CSA share freezer. You would simply grab your share bag (they will be color coded) & check your name off on the list when you pick-up. Please bring back your bag at the next pick-up or remove your share from the bag and place into your own bag leaving our bag at the stand.

Summer Share

Pick-up Dates: weeks of June 11th, July 8th, August 6th
Whole Share $100/month($300)

The whole share is 10-12 lbs of mixed beef cuts per month.

Example Share

2-3 lbs of ground beef or beef patties or beef sausage, 1-2 lbs of stew, kabob or stir fry beef, beef shanks or short ribs for stock & 4 steaks or two 2-3 lb roast

Half Share $60/month($180)

The Half Share is 5-6 lbs of mixed beef cuts per month.

Example Share

1-2 lbs of ground beef or beef patties or beef sausage, 1 lb of stew, kabob or stir fry beef, beef shanks or short ribs for stock & 2 steaks or one 2-3lb roast

There will be some degree of choice. For example if we are scheduled to have 2 lbs of ground beef or beef patties in the share for the month and you would rather 2 packs of ground beef or 1 lb of ground beef & 1 lb of beef patties you will get that choice via a survey sent out the week before pick-up.

Ground beef, patties, stir fry beef, beef sausage, kabob & stew meat will come in 1 lb packages.
Ground Beef Share $30/month ($90)

5 lbs of ground beef every month as a stand alone share or added to your whole or half share. If you know you use more ground beef this is a great option.  Ground beef will come individually packages in 1 lb packages.
